Student Builds Handsome Chess Board
One of our very talented students completed building this handsome and functional chess board with the intention of giving it to his mother as a Christmas present.
Initiated at the beginning of the school year, it is smartly designed with Walnut and Oak, and features a lift-up top for storage of the handmade chess and checkers pieces that he made in art class. Just below the top and adding to it's functionality are 3 pull-out drawers for additional storage for playing cards, etc.
Thank You Lakeland Andover School from
the Sussex County Historical Society.
Beginning last fall, student, Miguel G. has been coming each Friday to help as an intern with the museum displays. Recently, student Brandon M. has joined him.
Both students are part of the woodshop program at Lakeland Andover School under the direction of their teacher Jack Wyman. Together these students have added greatly to the museum displays. This includes the gun rack, a table for the Lenni Lenape long house, a stand for the railroad lanterns, and a wooden hook to display the horse collar.
They have also made repairs on display cabinets so the doors open all the way and lock, and have carried many heavy items throughout the museum. The school generously donated the wood, paid the interns and covered their insurance. This is a wonderful example of community support. The Sussex County Historical Society wishes to give the school and their students a BIG THANK YOU!
